A timeline of The American Civil War set to beautiful Patriotic music. A nice introduction to the Civil War unit intended for elementary school education. The music sets the tone of the era and provides the emotional side of the lesson so necessary for understanding this important historical event. The timeline starts with slavery and the Underground Railroad and ends with the surrender of the Confederates at Appomatox. Filmed on location at Gettysburg National Park and Antietam Battlefield.

”If I could save the Union without freeing any slave, I would do it; if I could save it by freeing all the slaves, I would do it; and if I could save it by freeing some and leaving others alone, I would also do that . . . My paramount object in the struggle is to save the Union, and is not to either save or destroy slavery” – Abraham Lincoln, Letter to Horace Greeley, August 22, 1862
Truth hurts.
splendid video, Thank you. My Greatgrandfather served 2 years with the 4th new york infantry, the regiment was at bloody lane at Antietam. They took heavy casualties there. After Honorable discharge he re-enlisted in the 39th NY Infantry (Garibaldi Guards} was wounded at Spottsylvania CH in may 1864. Made it to Sergeant-Major of the regiment. I have the original Photos of the dedication Ceremony of the 4th NY infantry monument at Antietam National Cemetary from 1887.
